Knight’s Cabin is looking for passionate and dedicated volunteers to fill a variety of roles! Time commitment varies with each position, so take a peek below to see if there is a fit for you. We’d love to have you on the team.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Description

  • Assist with recruiting, scheduling and orienting volunteers (there is an app for this)
  • Assist event planners with training, orientation sessions and events including preparation, and follow up communications.
  • Communicating with the gratitude officer to ensure proper recognition of volunteers
  • Maintaining contact information and gathering detailed volunteer interests, skills, and availability

 

Desired Skills

  • Exceptional computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with databases
  • Accurate data entry, detail oriented
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to multi-task
  • Previous volunteer coordination experience is an asset but not required

 

Time Commitment

  • 1-2 hours a week (maybe more around events)

  • Board of Directors

 

NEWSLETTER CREATOR

Description

  • Write and create the Knight’s Cabin monthly newsletter.
  • You will receive information for the newsletter from the Board members and volunteers. It is up to you to put it together in an attractive and effective way.
  • Use the program ‘MailChimp’ for optimal follow up and communication

 

Desired Skills

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Moderate computer skill set
  • Creative
  • Design background an asset, but not required

 

Time Commitment

  • 1-2 hours a month
  • The newsletter goes out mid-month, with a possibility of an off cycle newsletter to send out retreat applications or highlight special events

  • Communications and Marketing Committee

 

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Description

  • Execute Knight’s Cabin social media plan on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • You will receive content on research, fundraisers, programming, etc. from volunteers and Board members; it is up to you to make the content appropriate for social media platforms.
  • Educate on site board members or volunteers (for example at retreats or fundraisers) what to capture and what to post
  • Social media posts can be planned in advance

 

Desired Skills

  • Experience with the above-listed social media platforms
  • Experience with Hootsuite
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Creative

 

Time Commitment

  • 1-2 hours a week, most weeks

 

Report to:

Communications and Marketing Committee

 

GRANT WRITER(S)

Description

  • Apply to grants on behalf of Knight’s Cabin to receive funding to host retreats and create survivorship programming
  • Apply to grants on behalf of Knight’s Cabin to assist in Board development
  • Work with the Board of Directors to update grant list
  • Work with the Board of Directors for grant content
  • Search for new grants Knight’s Cabin could be eligible for, assess appropriateness of grant, and refer to Board
  • Customize the details and information for each grant application, as needed

 

Desired Skill Set

  • Grant writing experience is an asset
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Attention to detail

 

Time Commitment

  • 3-6 hours a month
  • (This is flexible position to your time availability, so long as you are mindful of grant deadlines and any grants that require or you would like reviewed prior to sending)

Other relevant information

  • Currently, Knight’s Cabin is applying, primarily, for small grants ($1,000-$5,000), which tend to be simple applications. We plan to grow over time.

 

GRATITUDE OFFICER

Description

  • Thank donors, volunteers and partners for their role in supporting Knight’s Cabin
  • This role will require short thank you emails to donors; creating social media posts of gratitude, especially after retreats and events; and thanking volunteers
  • You will work with event planners for ‘thank yous’ at events
  • You will also work on highlighting a donor, volunteer, or partner for the monthly newsletter, which will also be shared on the blog and other social media by the Social Media Coordinator and Blog Manager

 

Desired Skill Set

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • <1 hour/week

WEBSITE MANAGER

Description

  • Manage www.knightscabin.com
  • Updating website content such as retreats; calendar of events; Board of Directors’ biographies; the cancer survivorship resource page, etc.
  • Managing permissions for new Board members and bloggers, to ensure they have the ability to post
  • Collaborate with the Newsletter Creator, Social Media Manager, and other volunteers, as required, to keep content fresh and current
  • Other related duties as related to the position and requested by the Board

 

Desired Skill Set

  • Experience with WordPress
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience in website design

 

Time Commitment

  • 1 hour/week (most weeks)

BLOG MANAGER

Description

  • Manage posts for Knight’s Cabin blog
  • Ensure the volunteer writers submit their blog posts in a timely manner;
  • Post 2-3 blog write-ups per month.
  • You may write posts yourself, but this is not required

 

Desired Skill Set

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Organized
  • Experience with WordPress is an asset

 

Time Commitment

  • 1 hour/week most weeks

GENERAL VOLUNTEERS/TEAM  MEMBERS

Description

  • We currently in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta and BC who are helping fundraise and organize local retreats, and we need new team members.
  • We also need general volunteers to call on when hosting fundraising events or initiatives.

 

Desired Skill Set

  • Excited about Knight’s Cabin mission
  • Comfortable reaching out to your network to assist in sharing Knight’s Cabin’s mission and fundraising events
  • Comfortable assisting with fundraising efforts by sending emails or making calls to solicit donations for silent auctions or other fundraising events and following up

 

Time Commitment

  • Team members 1-2 hours/month most months
  • General volunteering, as required, at local events or online events
